Hardik Pandya is an allrounder who plays for the Indian team in international cricket. He represents Baroda in domestic cricket and Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League. Pandya is a right-handed batsman and a right-arm medium pacer.
Pandya has been plying his trade for Baroda in domestic cricket since 2013. In the 2013-14 season, he played a big role in Baroda's triumphant campaign at the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
However, it was not until 2015 that he managed to grab the eyeballs. Pandya hogged the limelight only after Mumbai Indians secured his services ahead of IPL 2015.
He hit the ground running in the IPL and became a regular in the star-studded Mumbai Indians team from the very start. In his very first IPL season, he helped Mumbai Indians win the tournament.
Pandya plied his trade for Mumbai Indians from 2015 to 2021 before being released. In 2022, he was signed up by Gujarat Titans and played two seasons for them.
In 2022, he led the Titans to the IPL title before guiding them to the final in 2023. After two highly successful seasons with the Titans, he returned to Mumbai Indians in 2024 and also replaced Rohit Sharma as the captain of the team.
Pandya made his debut in international cricket in 2016. He has been a key member of the Indian team since then.
Pandya was the vice-captain when India won the T20 World Cup in 2024. Here we are taking a look at the person who played a huge role in his career, Hardik Pandya's father.
Hardik Pandya's father:
Hardik Pandya's father's name is Himanshu Pandya. His other son, Krunal is also a professional cricketer who has represented the Indian team in international cricket. Krunal plies his trade for Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL.
Himanshu played a huge role in shaping his sons' careers. He used to run a car finance business in Surat but decided to close it down to move to Vadodara when Krunal was only 7 and Hardik was 5.
He took the big decision to make sure his sons get the right cricket training. Himanshu enrolled both of his sons in Kiran More's cricket academy in Vadodara.
The Pandya family did not own any house in Vadodara and lived in a rented apartment in Gowra. The Pandya brothers used a second-hand car to travel to the cricket ground.
Both the brothers shared a very close bond with their father. In 2017, they had gifted their father a Jeep Compass SUV.
Hardik and Krunal have also changed their names on their respective social media accounts to pay tribute to their father. Both of them have added their father's name ‘Himanshu’ as their middle name.
Hardik Pandya's father's death:
In 2021, Himanshu Pandya passed away at the age of 71 after suffering a cardiac arrest. Hardik had later taken to social media to post a heartfelt message for his father.
Several leading cricketers in the country including the likes of Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli had also paid their condolences through posts on social media.
Hardik was practicing for the limited-overs series against England in Mumbai at that time.
On the other hand, Krunal was leading Baroda in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Both the brothers left the cricket assignments to be with their family and perform the last rites of their father.
Before passing away, Himanshu and the rest of the Pandya family lived together at a four-bedroom penthouse in Vadodara. The penthouse is spread across 6000 sq ft and is reportedly priced at INR 3.6 crores.
