Pakistan cricketers, especially retirees, have a propensity to make bizarre statements every now and then. And in the latest turn of events, former Pakistan spinner Mushtaq Ahmed has made a statement that won’t be received well by many in India.
The Men in Green recently arrived in India for the ICC World Cup 2023. They arrived in Hyderabad on Wednesday (September 27) and were stunned by the grand welcome. Hundreds of fans lined up in the airport and cheered them as the Pakistani players made their way to the bus.
The reception was so unexpected for the Pakistani players that few of them even took to social media to express their delight. Pakistan captain Babar Azam, wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan, and pace spearhead Shaheen Afridi took to Instagram to appreciate the support.
Mushtaq Ahmed’s bizarre comment:
While Indian fans are receiving praise from several quarters for welcoming the Pakistan team in a grand and heartwarming manner, Mushtaq Ahmed’s comment is set to leave a bad taste in their mouth. The 1992 World Cup winner has claimed that Pakistan would receive such love and support in Hyderabad as well as in Ahmedabad because of the significant Muslim population in both cities.
Pakistan will open their World Cup campaign in Hyderabad before going to Ahmedabad for the high-voltage clash against India at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Speaking on the Samma TV, Mushtaq Ahmed said:
“Ahmedabad aur Hyderabad dono jo inke cities hai, yaha par population musalmano ki bahut zyada hai. Aur iss wajeh se he aap dekhenge ki airport se lekr hotel tak puri puri raat logo ko khade hote dekha hai. (Ahmedabad and Hyderabad are such cities where the population of Muslims is quite high. That is why you see (support) at the airport).”

This is not the first time that a former Pakistani player has made this type of comment. A few weeks ago, former Pakistan pacer Rana Naved-ul-Hasan had also claimed that Pakistan would receive big support in India because of the Muslim population in Ahmedabad.
Rana Naved also gave the same statement which Mushtaq Ahmed gave today re Muslims living in Hyderabad and Ahmedabad supporting Pakistan ?
I don't agree with it, and don't think this religious element should be involved in it ????
