Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is reportedly planning to appoint a psychologist for the players to deal with the pressure in the upcoming ICC World Cup 2023.

Pakistan are one of the firm favourites to win the tournament this year and their players will be under immense pressure to deal with the lofty expectations. The hostile reception they are likely to face in India will only make things tougher for Babar Azam and his teammates.

And to make sure that the players remain in the right frame of mind throughout the high-profile competition, the PCB is taking all possible steps. One of the measures is to hire a psychologist to help the players. According to Cricket Pakistan, PCB officials believe that taking such a decision is important as most of the players will be playing in India for the first time.

The psychologist will accompany the Pakistan squad to India and help boost the players’ morale during the World Cup. The report stated that PCB is currently exploring all the options and no name has been finalised so far. In 2012 when Pakistan visited India for a short limited-overs series, they were accompanied by sports psychologist Maqbool Babri.

Pakistan’s schedule in ICC World Cup 2023:

While the World Cup schedule could see minor changes, it is originally scheduled to begin on October 5 in Ahmedabad. Reigning champions England will be up against New Zealand in the first match of the tournament. A total of 10 teams will be participating in the competition. 10 venues will host a total of 48 games over a span of 46 days in the World Cup.

The final is scheduled to be played on November 19 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Pakistan are scheduled to start their campaign on October 6 against the Netherlands in Hyderabad. It will be followed by the game against Sri Lanka at the same venue on October 12.

As per the original schedule, their high-profile game against India was scheduled to take place on October 15 but is likely to take place on October 14 now in Ahmedabad. Pakistan will be looking to end their long wait for the World Cup trophy. The Men in Green have not won the tournament since Imran Khan led them to their first and only World Cup title to date in 1992.
