Zimbabwe Cricket Team achieved their highest total in the history of the ODI format after they posted 408 runs in 50 overs. They achieved the feat in the ongoing 17th match of the ICC World Cup Qualifiers against the United States of America (USA).
Asked to bat first, Zimbabwe were off the flier as Joylord Gumbie (78) and Innocent Kaia (32) batted fluently and smashed 56 runs for the opening partnership. But after that, it was all about skipper Sean Williams as he played knock for ages and put his team in a commanding position.

The Zimbabwe skipper scored 174 runs in 101 balls and took the game away from the opposition. He was well supported by Sikander Raza and Ryan Burl, who scored 48 and 47 runs respectively as the hosts displayed an exhibition of high-class batting at Harare.
A finish by Tadiwanashe Marumani, who scored 18 runs in just 6 balls, powered Zimbabwe to a total of 408 runs in their quota of 50 overs, surpassing their total of 351 runs against Kenya in 2009. They notably have qualified for the super six stages of the ICC World Cup Qualifiers. \

ICC World Cup 2023: “I’m looking to play the ball as late as can,” Zimbabwe skipper Sean Williams After his marathon knock
Sean Williams talked about his magnificent 174-run knock that included 21 fours and 5 sixes. He said that he’s trying to play the ball as late as possible and their focus is to win regardless of the opposition. He explained:
“It was a fantastic wicket. The way we started out there, it wa a little slow, so we thought if we could pick the intensity up against the spinners, we could see wher we go from there. Like I said at the beginning, we play to win regardless of which team we are playing and that shows it all. I’m looking to play the ball as late as can and visualizing it going to the boundary. It’s amazing what can happen if you continue to dream big.”
