Australia stars have picked India captain Rohit Sharma in their World ODI XI and have heaped praise on him. The India batting superstar is one of the most decorated batsmen in the history of ODI cricket.

The right-handed batsman began his career as a middle-order batsman in 2007. But after struggling to cement his place in the team for years, he was promoted as an opener in 2013 and has not looked back since then. So far, he has played 251 ODIs and has scored a staggering 10112 runs with the help of 30 centuries and 52 half-centuries.

Earlier this year, he became the second fastest to 10000 runs in ODIs. Rohit Sharma currently holds the world record for the highest individual score (264) in the 50-over format and is the only player to have scored three double-centuries in ODIs. He also holds the record for scoring the most hundreds (five) in one edition of the ODI World Cup.

Australia stars praise Rohit Sharma:

Rohit Sharma was the first picked by the Australia cricketers in the World ODI XI. Travis Head began by pointing out that the India star picks himself in the team thanks to his stunning performance in ODIs over the years.

“Take Virat out, he’s probably the pick of ODI batters in the last 8-10 years,” Josh Hazlewood said on Fox Cricket.

“He has got three double hundreds in international cricket so he pretty much picks himself,” said Travis Head.

On the other hand, Sean Abbott said: “You might look at his form and think he’s probably not going as well as he usually would. [And then] he’ll turn up the next game and he’ll look like he’s playing a different game with cheat codes on.”

The likes of Josh Hazlewood and Ashton Agar explained how difficult it is to bowl to Rohit Sharma. Both the bowlers stated that the room for mistakes against Rohit Sharma is very small. Agar also hailed the batter as the best opener in the world.

“That little box becomes so small where you can land the ball. Put so much pressure back on the bowler. If you are touch short, he’ll pick you up for a six,” said Hazlewood.

“I thin he’s the best one-day opening batter in the world. He has such a beautiful technique, uncomplicated,” said Agar. “The only good part about Rohit is that he doesn’t sweep a lot. So there’s one area where you can bowl and try and limit his scoring. But if just miss that area on a good pitch, it’s going miles.
