Former Indian pacer S Sreesanth made a bold prediction for the ODI World Cup 2023, naming the finalists of the tournament. S Sreesanth highlighted that India and New Zealand will play the final match of the marquee event, scheduled to commence on October 5.
The Rohit Sharma-led team will start as favourites to win the title in the upcoming World Cup, considering their familiarity with the conditions. The Men in Blue won the ICC trophy under the leadership of MS Dhoni when they last hosted the ODI tournament in 2011.
India And New Zealand In The Final – S Sreesanth
In a conversation with Sportskeeda, S Sreesanth expressed his belief that India will take revenge for their 2019 World Cup semifinal defeat against New Zealand. He hoped that the Rohit Sharma-led team would lift the trophy in the showpiece event at home.
“I feel it will be India and New Zealand in the final. We will take revenge of the 2019 World Cup and hopefully do something similar to the 50-all-out against Sri Lanka. I am pretty positive and as Indian fans everyone should think about India winning,” Sreesanth said.
The Indian team suffered a heartbreaking defeat against New Zealand in the semi-final of the 2019 World Cup. They dominated throughout the group stage and finished at the top of the 10-team points table.
Hardik Pandya Could Be Colse To The Award – S Sreesanth
Sreesanth believes that Hardik Pandya is a strong contender for the Man of the Series award in the upcoming World Cup, considering his all-round abilities. He also mentioned Kuldeep Yadav as a potential top performer to win the award.
“Yuvi Paaji did it for us so if you look at the Man of the Series award and if you think an all-rounder should do it then Hardik Pandya could be close to that award. He will be important for India. Kuldeep Yadav can also win it or be among the top three contenders if he keeps shattering records in the World Cup.”
“Don’t forget Hardik’s fastest hundred. Don’t forget Bumrah’s two five-wicket hauls. Kuldeep Yadav will bowl the best spell ever seen by an Indian spinner,” he concluded.
