The 25-year-old star England National Cricket Team all-rounder Sam Curran has picked the Rohit Sharma-led India National Cricket Team as favorites to win the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.

India are the hosts of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, which is the 13th edition of the 50-over Cricket World Cup. The competition is scheduled to be held from October 5 to November 19. This is the first time India will be hosting an ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup alone. They previously co-hosted the World Cups with other countries in 1987, 1996, and 2011.

According to Sam Curran, India will have a home advantage and they are familiar with the conditions, which makes them clear favorites to win the trophy.

“I feel like India being the home side, and with it being their conditions, they’re probably the favourites,” Curran told GQ Magazine.

Cricket’s a religion in India – Sam Curran

Sam Curran further said that cricket is a religion in India and people worship the sport. He added that the pacer Gus Atkinson, who will visit India for the first time, has been asking a lot of questions about the conditions, the culture, the people, and the fans in India.

“Cricket’s a religion (in India) so you’ve got to go with an open mind, take it all in, and expect an amazing experience. For one of my good mates, Gus Atkinson, it’s his first time going to India, so he’s been asking questions about the conditions, the culture, the people, the fans. People just love the game and when you leave the hotel, you get mobbed by loads of fans, which is amazing. It just shows how much people love and worship cricket in India,” Curran added.

The ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 is set to be played across 12 different venues in India. Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Chennai, Delhi, Dharamsala, Mumbai, Pune, Guwahati, and Thiruvananthapuram are the 12 venues for matches. Guwahati and Thiruvananthapuram will only host warm-up matches.
