Former South Africa player Lance Klusener feels that Virat Kohli will be a leading run-scorer in ICC World Cup 2023. He also said that Virat Kohli is an absolute quality and will excel in the home conditions.
Virat Kohli will be a key batter for India in ICC World Cup 2023. The right-handed batsman has also showcased a marvelous form in 2023. He shattered a century in Asia Cup 2023 against Pakistan to win the player of the match award.
Virat Kohli Probably Be The Leading Run Scorer: Lance Klusener
There have been rumors that Virat Kohli might play his last ODI World Cup tournament in the 2023 edition. Kohli is 34 years old currently and will be 38 when the next ODI World Cup happens in 2027.
However, Lance Klusener feels that Kohli will not retire anytime soon. He also believes that Kohli can emerge as the leading run-getter in ICC World Cup 2023.
“Virat Kohli, retirement? Probably not. He’s absolutely quality. He’ll be playing in his home conditions. He’ll probably be the leading run scorer if India go all the way,” Klusener told CricBlog.
Recently, Ashton Agar was ruled out of Australia’s squad for ICC World Cup 2023, making them one spinner short of the tournament. Lance Klusener feels that although Australia are short of spinners, they have enough strength in the pace department.
“If there’s no spinner for Australia, no quality spinner, are you better off choosing a fast bowler. They might be lacking one quality spinner but they’ve proved in South Africa they’ve got more than enough weapons in terms of slower bowling and full pace when it comes to doing what they need to do in the World Cup,” the 52-year-old added.
Meanwhile, the ICC World Cup 2023 begins on October 5. India and Australia will face off each other in their opening game on October 8. Australia recently won their warm-up game against Pakistan by 14 runs. India’s two warm-up matches were washed out due to rain.
