A day after Pakistan received a grand welcome in Hyderabad after their arrival in India for the ICC World Cup 2023, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Zaka Ashraf is facing the heat for his derogatory remarks about India.
The bilateral ties between India and Pakistan are currently at an all-time low due to political reasons. India suspended the bilateral ties with Pakistan after the 2008 terrorist attack in Mumbai. Since then, the cricketing ties have been suspended too.
Pakistan did visit India towards the end of 2012 for a short limited-overs series but the bilateral cricketing ties are suspended since then. India and Pakistan play against each other only in ICC competitions or the Asia Cup at present.
Zaka Ashraf calls India ‘Dushman mulk’:
Despite the historical and political tension between India and Pakistan, Babar Azam and his Pakistan teammates received a very warm welcome in India on Wednesday (September 27). Hundreds of excited fans cheered them as the Pakistani players made their way to the bus from the airport.
The reception and the welcome were so warm and grand that a number of Pakistan players took to social media to express their delight over the same. But while Pakistan’s players received a heartwarming welcome in India, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Zaka Ashraf failed to return the favor.
In a recent interaction with the media, the PCB chief, while urging the Pakistan fans to support the team, called India a ‘dushman mulk’ which means enemy country.
“Aapko dekhna chahiye jab ye dushman mulk me khelne jayen jahan competition ho rha hai, to aako unhe support karna chahiye taki wah ache tarike se pradarshan kar saken,” said Zaka Ashraf.
(Roughly translated to: “You should keep in mind that when the players go to an enemy country where the competition is being held, you should support them so that they can perform”.)
