ICC Mens All-Rounder Rankings
The ICC Men's all-rounder rankings ranks the allrounders in international cricket using a points based system. The players earn points based on their performance in the games.
According to the ICC, the ICC Men's all-rounder rankings is calculated by 'doing a series of calculations leading to a sophisticated moving average'. The players are rated on a scale of 0 to 1000 points.
While the current form of a player is definitely a big factor in the rankings, it would be wrong to assume that past performance does not hold much importance. The ICC's ranking system also takes into account a player's entire career. At the same time, the rankings put more emphasis on what the player has done recently.
Considering all these factors, the governing body of the game has developed an algorithm, a series of calculations (all pre-programmed) to give rating points to the players. The rankings not only take into account the player's performance but also other factors such as the quality of the opposition, conditions as well as the importance of the match.
The ICC Men's all-rounders rankings are divided into three categories - one for each format. There is a ranking for each of the three formats - Test, ODI and T20I. According to the ICC, 'there are slightly different factors for each of the different formats of the game' and all of those factors are taken into consideration while ranking a player.
To calculate the all-rounders' rankings, the ICC has developed an index. The system takes the player's batting and bowling points before multiplying them together. The product is then divided by 1000.
For example, if a player has 500 batting points but 0 bowling points, the player gets an index of zero as he or she cannot bowl and therefore isn't an allrounder. In another scenario, let's assume that the a player gets 600 batting points and 200 bowling points. In that case, he has a rating of 120.
