Just a couple of days before the semifinal clash against England, Team India suffered a huge injury after their skipper Rohit Sharma was struck on his right forearm.
Team India are scheduled to take the field on Thursday (November 10) for a place in the final of the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022. India made it to the last four after topping Group 2 following four wins and a defeat in 4 games.
India have been the most in-form team in the competition so far and would be keen to make the most of the momentum against England who finished the group stage at the second spot. But ahead of the mega clash, India were dealt a big blow when Rohit sustained the injury while batting in the nets.
Rohit Sharma’s injury scare:
The unfortunate incident took place when Rohit Sharma was facing throwdowns. According to Cricbuzz, one of the balls reared up from a length and struck him on the forearm. The medical staff soon came out and checked on the opener. To everyone’s relief, Rohit Sharma decided to resume the training session once again.
However, he eventually decided to abort his net session after just one ball as he was experiencing pain in the elbow. The report further added that Rohit Sharma has stayed back at the outdoor nets facility, icing his injured wrist with coach Paddy Upton by his side.
He was one of three Indian squad members that turned up at the optional training session two days before the semifinal clash. The other two members were Hardik Pandya and Dinesh Karthik as they batted against throw downs and the reserve bowlers Shardul Thakur and Mohammed Siraj.
Rohit Sharma has had a below average tournament so far with the bat. Playing his first T20 World Cup as captain, Rohit has managed to hit only one fifty so far. The skipper would be hoping that the injury is not serious and he recovers in time to play the semifinal.
India are eyeing their second T20 World Cup title and first since winning the inaugural edition in 2007. Rohit was a part of that tournament too.
