IND vs PAK: Head to Head Records Of India vs Pakistan In ICC Men’s T20 World Cup History. Rohit Sharma-led Indian team will head into the ICC T20I World Cup 2022 starting later this month will an aim to win their first title since the inaugural triumph under MS Dhoni back in 2007. After a disappointing showing in the T20I World Cup 2021 where they failed to reach the semifinals, the Rohit Sharma-led Men in Blue will look for a much better showing down under in Australia.

The venue of the 2022 T20I World Cup tournament is Australia. The Men in Blue will play their opening match of the upcoming T20I World Cup 2022 on October 23 against Pakistan at Melbourne Cricket Ground. India is part of group 2 in the tournament with teams like Pakistan, South Africa, and Bangladesh in their pool.

The last time the two teams met at the 2021 T20I World Cup, Pakistan had beaten their arch-rivals by 10 wickets in their Super 12 match in Dubai to register their first-ever win against their neighbours in World Cups. Babar Azam hit an unbeaten 68, while Mohammad Rizwan smashed an unbeaten 79. Pakistan pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi bowled a terrific spell of 3/31 with three prized scalps of Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, and Virat Kohli.

Pakistan will begin their 2022 T20 World Cup campaign against the Men in Blue on October 23. Babar Azam’s men lost in the finals of the recent Asia Cup 2022, going down to Sri Lanka by 23 runs.

After the disappointment of the 2021 T20 World Cup, where they lost in the semifinals, Pakistan would be hoping to turn things around in 2022 when they travel to Australia. Pakistan begin their campaign against India at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground and will go on to play four more league games.

The winners of the 2009 World T20(T20I World Cup) also reached the final in 2007, where they lost to India. They have entered the semifinals on three other occasions, including in 2010, 2012 and in 2021.

The two teams have faced each other in 6 matches in ICC T20 World Cup tournaments. Out of these 6 games, India have won 4 whereas Pakistan have come out victorious on 1 occasion. 1 match ended tied with India winning the fixture by a bowl-out.

The highest total posted by India is 157 runs while the highest score posted by Pakistan is 152 (twice) when these two teams have clashed with each other in T20 WC. 118 is the lowest total posted by Pakistan.

2007 T20 World Cup- India Win Tied Group Match By A Bowl-Out And Final Against Pakistan

India met Pakistan twice in the inaugural 2007 T20 World Cup and on both occasions, India came on top. The first meeting was in Durban on the 14th of September. The match was tied with both the teams scoring 141 runs in the allotted 20 over. Robin Uthappa who scored 50, and MS Dhoni who scored 33 were the top performers for India while Mohammed Asif who took 4/18 and Misbah-ul-Haq who scored 53 were the top performers for Pakistan.

Bowl out was used to decide the winner where the teams had five players hitting stumps and the one who scored more than the other wins. India hit the stumps in the initial three attempts while Pakistani players weren’t able to hit any. Bowl out is now replaced by super over to decide the tied games.

Pakistan again met with their arch-rivals in the finals and it was the Men in Blue, led by MS Dhoni who went on to win a nerve-wracking game by 5 runs. Gautam Gambhir top scored with 75 while Umar Gul picked 3/28. Misbah-ul-Haq’s 43 went in vain as RP Singh and Irfan Pathan took 3 wickets apiece.

2012 T20 World Cup- India Wins

India won by eight wickets against their arch-rivals Pakistan in the 2012 T20 World Cup but did not qualify for the semi-finals due to an inferior net run rate than Pakistan and Australia. Virat Kohli played a match-winning inning of 78 not out in the game against Pakistan and silenced all his critics who were blaming him for not performing in the big games.

L Balaji took 3/22 as Pakistan scored only 128 with none of their batters scoring above 30. Virat Kohli scored an unbeaten 78 as the Men in Blue won in the 17th over losing only 2 wickets.

2014 T20 World Cup- India Wins By 7 Wickets

In their 2014 T20 World Cup game against their arch-rivals, Pakistan was only able to score 130 runs in 20 overs which was chased down by the Men in Blue with seven wickets in hand.

Umar Akmal top scored with 33 for Pakistan, while India’s Shikhar Dhawan(30), Virat Kohli (36*) and Suresh Raina (35*) were the top run-getters in that match.

2016 T20 World Cup- India Wins After Restricting Pakistan To Only 118

The Men in Blue showed no mercy to their rivals and restricted them to only 118 runs in 18 overs in the next 2016 T20 World Cup.  The star of the show was again Virat Kohli who helped his side cruise home with his brilliant 55 not out. The Men in Blue scored 119 runs losing only 4 wickets in the process in the 16th over.

2021 T20 World Cup- Pakistan Wins For The First Time In World Cups Against Arch Rivals By 10 Wickets

Unlike other occasions, Pakistan went on to smash India out of the park in all departments and registered their first win over India in any world cup. After a magnificent spell by Shaheen Shah Afridi restricting India to 151 runs, Pakistan did not even lose a wicket in the run chase and did it effortlessly. Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam scored half-centuries in the process.

Virat Kohli’s half-century helped India recover from a disastrous start (India was reduced to 6/2) and post 151/7 against Pakistan in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 match. Pakistan’s lanky pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi put the Men in Blue on the back foot from the start with the wickets of openers Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul off his first seven deliveries.

He finished with 3-31 after dismissing India’s top scorer, skipper Virat Kohli for 57 in a total of 151-7 in 20 overs. Babar Azam, along with fellow opener Mohammad Rizwan knocked off the target in 17.5 overs without losing a single wicket. Babar Azam hit 68 not out, while Mohammed Rizwan finished with an undefeated 79.
