T20 World Cup 2022: Bangladesh Mull Using Liton Das In The Middle Order In T20s

Liton Das, Bangladesh’s opening batsman, may bat at number four in the T20 competition.
When Mushfiqur Rahim retired from the shortest format, Liton, who had only previously played at number four twice in his career, may fill the vacancy in this position.
In his 54-match T20 career, Liton Das often batted in the top three and began the innings 40 times, scoring 819 runs at an average of 21. He played seven innings at third base, scoring 187 runs with an average of 26.71. However, he struggled in position four, scoring only seven runs in the two games he’s played there thus far.
Bangladesh Planning To Play Liton Das At Four
“We are planning to play him at four though a final decision is yet to be taken in this regard,” BCB chief selector Minhajul Abedin told Cricbuzz.
The decision to move Liton down the order suggests that in the forthcoming T20 assignments, the think tank may use one or perhaps two impromptu openers.
In place of their two normal openers, Anamul Haque and Naim Sheikh, the BCB chose to send Mehedy Hasan and Sabbir Rahman instead during their match against Sri Lanka.
Another team manager informed Cricbuzz that they will discuss Liton’s new batting position in the T20s with him but said that the decision was taken because they wanted a four who could attack right away.
“Look we are not likely to open with Liton but how he takes this decision is something we have to see but we will certainly talk with him in the upcoming practice session,” said the official.
“If Liton agrees and doesn’t open then our plan is to play him at four with Afif coming in at five. There are few cricketers at number six. We want to have a long batting line-up in Australia,” he said adding that new T20 technical consultant Sridharan Sriram also opined the same
“This is what he (Sriram) wants because he has seen how Liton bats and was saying that he needs a batsman like Liton and Afif coming at number four and five because hitting boundaries after the first six overs is difficult because players are spread everywhere and at that point such a player is needed who can play in the gaps and do power hitting and for that Liton and Afif is very good,” he said.
