When England selects its squad for the Twenty20 World Cup on Friday, they will be capable of leaving out the names of Jason Roy and Matt Parkinson. Roy, one of the most important figures in the evolution of England’s white-ball cricket, will be dropped after a poor run of form, as per Sportsmail on Thursday. It will be a long way back, at 33, for the Surrey opener.

Matt Parkinson from Lancashire is also expected to miss out, with England determining that his leg spin is simply not fast or good enough for the highest level.

In a tournament that starts in October, Hampshire all-rounder Liam Dawson is most likely to serve as Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid’s backup spinner.

When skipper Jos Buttler returns from injury, Dawid Malan is anticipated to take over Roy’s position as the T20 team’s opener alongside him. Phil Salt and Surrey’s untested Will Jacks should also be able to get batting positions in the 15-man squad.

Additionally, England will announce a 19-man squad for the seven-match Twenty20 series against Pakistan that will take place later this month before the World Cup. Newcomers Jordan Cox of Kent and Tom Helm of Middlesex are set to get opportunities.

Jason Roy to be dropped for Pakistan T20I series: Reports

In six T20I games against South Africa and India this summer, the England opening batsman scored just 78 runs.

Jason Roy’s abrupt decline in performance may prevent him from being included in England’s T20I team for the seven-match series against Pakistan that will begin on September 20.
While Buttler recovers from a calf injury, Moeen will lead the team during the first few matches in Pakistan.

The last time England toured Pakistan was in 2005 to play three Tests and three ODI matches. They lost both the bilateral series with Pakistan winning 2-0 (Tests) and 3-2 (ODIs).
