India to ignore Virat Kohli for T20 World Cup despite IPL heroics? BCCI official drops huge 'strike rate' statement

India batter Virat Kohli has been in talks for a while now. Not for his batting performances but he has been hogging headlines because are a lot of concerns about him getting picked in the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup 2024.

One of the major talking points of late is whether Virat Kohli deserves a place in the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup 2024 or not. There have been various reports which have suggested that the batter isn’t in contention to be there because selectors want to give opportunities to youngsters.

The reports claimed that BCCI selectors feel that Virat Kohli’s slow approach won’t be handy in the Carribean conditions. The T20 World Cup 2024 will be played in the month of June this year just after the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 in the United States of America and the Caribbean.

Since then many fans and experts have shared their opinions on the same. While many feel Virat Kohli should be there, few say that the batter needs to give the place for the youngsters, who take the attack to the bowlers right from the ball 1. The senior batter, notably, takes time to get going.

With all the speculations about the place of Virat Kohli in the Indian team for the T20 World Cup 2024, a source from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has come up with a positive update. The official said that batter has started pretty well in the ongoing IPL 2024.

He believes that Virat Kohli will increase his strike rate as well and the batter is likely to make it into the T20 World Cup 2024. He stressed that selectors don’t pay heed to social media as cricket is played on the field. Speaking to IANS on condition of anonymity, he stated:

“See, it is just the beginning (of the league) and Kohli has started fine. He will improve his strike rate as well in the coming matches. As far as I personally feel, he will make it (to the World Cup squad). Selectors don’t go by social media memes. Cricket is played on the field not on social media platforms.”

Virat Kohli sets the stage on fire in the ongoing IPL 2024

Virat Kohli has been nothing short of exceptional in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. In what was been his first competitive cricket campaign after a two-month break, he made sure that he silenced all his critics with his bat.

Virat Kohli is the orange cap holder in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. The batter started the tournament with a low score against Chennai Super Kings but after that didn’t look back. He scored 77 runs against Punjab Kings and followed it up with an unbeaten 83-run knock against Kolkata Knight Riders.

The batter, however, himself seems to be aware of all the chatter going about his place in the Indian team. He after the game against Punjab Kings made a bold statement and stated: “I know my name is quite attached to just promoting the game in many parts of the world when it comes to T20 cricket, but I have still got it I guess.”

Virat Kohli will be next seen in action when Royal Challengers Bengaluru will face Lucknow Super Giants on Tuesday (1st April) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
