Zak Crawley and Alex Lees have been picked as openers, while Stuart Broad and James Anderson, two senior fast bowlers, have been named as the key bowlers in the playing XI.

England wins the first Test match thanks to Joe Root’s unbeaten ton:

England beat New Zealand in the first Test at Lord’s, taking a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. Joe Root ended up scoring his 26th Test century. Root was undefeated on 77 at stumps on Day 3 with Ben Foakes, and the pair gave England a solid start. England was struggling to recover at 69 for four at one point while trying to chase a target of 277.

England’s chase is boosted by Root and skipper Ben Stokes’ 90-run fifth-wicket stand. Stokes hit his 50 on Day 3 three before being caught by Kyle Jamieson on 54. However, Root and batsmen Ben Foakes put on an unbeaten 120-run partnership to help England win the series opener.

The second Test will be held from June 10 to 14 at Trent Bridge in Nottingham.
