England take on New Zealand in the second Test match at Trent Bridge in Nottingham starting from June 10. The three-match Test series is a part of the ICC World Test Championship 2021-23.
England are leading the series 1-0 courtesy of their win in the first Test at Lord’s. They have named an unchanged XI for the second Test with Jack Leech deemed fit and available to play after completing a mandatory seven-day conclusion return protocol.
Joe Root‘s unbeaten 115 helped England chase down a target of 277 in the second innings of the first Test. Root also went past 10000 Test runs during that innings and became only the second England cricketer to do so after Alastair Cook.
He also joined an elite list of batsmen with over 10000 runs in Test cricket. Heading into the second Test, Root’s form will be his team’s biggest asset. It is a good start to Test cricket under Ben Stokes‘ leadership and England would like to build on that.
New Zealand, on the other hand, were taken by the losses. After a string of wickets fell on the first two days of the Test match, the Kiwis made a good effort in the second innings but not enough to hand them a win. To make matters worse, Colin De Grandhomme now has been ruled out for the rest of the series with a heel injury. Michael Bracewell, who was earlier brought in as a cover for Henry Nicholls has been added to the squad now.
