Sri Lanka registered a comfortable win in the second Test match against Pakistan to draw level in the two-Test series. Sri Lanka defeated Pakistan by 246 runs in Galle and drew level 1-1. It was an amazing performance from the home side after they had lost the first Test to Babar Azam’s side.

Set 508 runs to win the match, Pakistan capitulated to 261 runs all out. Skipper Babar Azam top-scored with 81 runs, while Imam Ul Haq made 49. Mohammad Rizwan (37) and Yasir Shah (27) were also contributors in the Pakistani reply, which fell short of the required target.

Prabath Jayasuriya continued his brilliant form with the ball, picking 5/117, while Ramesh Mendis had an amazing outing with figures of 4/101.

Sri Lanka had won the toss and chose to bat first against a confident Pakistan side. Oshada Fernando made 50, Dinesh Chandimal made 80, and Niroshan Dickwella made 51 runs as Sri Lanka posted 378 runs in the first do. Dimuth Karunaratne (40), Angelo Mathews (42), and Ramesh Mendis (35) were other significant contributors to the total.

Naseem Shah and Yasir Shah picked three wickets each for Pakistan.

However, the Men in Green failed to come good with the bat as they were bowled out for 231 runs with Ramesh Mendis taking 5/47 and Prabath Jayasuriya taking 3/80. Agha Salman top-scored with 62, Yasir Shah made 26 and Babar Azam and Fawad Alam made 24 each.

With a lead of 147 runs, Sri Lanka aimed to put a stiff target in front of the Pakistanis and did the same by making 360/8d. Dhananjaya de Silva made 109, while Dimuth Karunaratne made 61 runs and Ramesh Mendis made 45 runs.

With this win, Sri Lanka moved to the third spot in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2021-23 standings with a PCT of 53.33. Pakistan, on the other hand, now has 51.85 PCT and dropped to the 5th spot behind India.
