England Captain Ben Stokes scored a flamboyant century on Friday against a power-packed South African bowling line-up. Stokes was looking a bit scratchy in the initial stages as the pitch was not an easy one.

Ben Stokes then got his eye in and played with a lot of intent. It looked as if he wanted to make a statement that he is not only there to score 20 odd runs. The skipper looked in complete control in his 103 runs knock off 163 balls.

Stokes got to his 12th century and it seemed that the old Vintage Ben Stokes is back. It was blatantly seen that the batting of stokes got affected due to the captaincy burden. ECB had made him the skipper as Joe Root wasn’t producing the required results; there was no doubt regarding his batting prowess as in the last 3 years he has been in sublime touch.

The charismatic all-rounder had hit six direct to the pavilion which made the day for the spectators and for the coaching staff. He showed no mercy to Simon Harmer by advancing to the down. He was focused on rotating the strike which frustrated the bowlers a lot as on the non-strike there was Ben Foakes.

Left hand- right-hand combination always has the knack of disturbing the bowling team. England Cricket Team was playing like a Champion team and they were very much keen to prove everyone wrong regarding their newly adopted aggressive approach.

Ben Foakes plays a Solid Knock

The wicket-keeper batter was playing a second fiddle. The batter knew that sticking to the crease is crucial. He was eking out an odd boundary and was quite busy at the crease. The duo of Stokes-Foakes were involved in a 173-run partnership which made sure that England took the lead past 200 runs. The dexterous wicket-keeper scored 113 runs in 217 balls and while batting with the tail-enders; he switched his gears and took the lead to a mammoth 264 runs.

Ben Foakes has most probably cemented his place in the team and now if Jos Buttler wants to make a comeback, then it’s quite difficult. Ben Foakes has got some acrobatic wicket-keeping skills which make him a complete package. The fast bowlers were bowling their hearts out but this time the batters were well equipped. The pain of losing the 1st Test Match inside 3 days was clearly seen on the faces of the batters.
