The 31-year-old Australia National Cricket Team leg-spinner Adam Zampa uprooted the off-stump of the star India National Cricket Team opening batsman Shubman Gill to help his side make a comeback in the first ODI of the three-match series on Friday, 22 September, at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali, Chandigarh.

While chasing the target of 277, Shubman Gill opened the innings with Ruturaj Gaikwad and provided India with an excellent start in the match. Notably, Gaikwad got the opportunity to open the innings with Gill as Rohit Sharma has been rested for the first two ODIs alongside Hardik Pandya, Virat Kohli, and Kuldeep Yadav.

Meanwhile, Gill looked settled in the middle and he batted with a positive intent. The 24-year-old batted aggressively and smashed the bowlers all over the park. Ruturaj Gaikwad, after playing cautiously in the initial half of the innings, also took attack on the Aussie bowling unit.

Together they added 142 runs off 130 balls before Zampa trapped Gaikwad LBW for 71 on the fourth ball of the 22nd over.

Just after a few overs, the leg-spinner also sent Gill back into the hut. The 24-year-old batter was able to score 74 runs off 63 balls, before walking back to the dugout for 74 runs off 63 balls, with 6 fours and 2 sixes.

On the third ball of the 26th over, Zampa bowled a short delivery that pitched on the off-stump and Gill went back to play a cut short. However, there was hardly any room for that and the ball beat his bat and crashed into the stumps.

Earlier, Australia posted 276 on the board after being invited to bat first. David Warner was the only batter who hit a half-century for his side while the rest of the batters contributed with good 30s and 40s.
