In a wonderful gesture, India National Cricket Team captain Rohit Sharma invited the star wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul to collect the trophy after beating Australia National Cricket Team in a three-match home ODI series.

The Indian skipper decided to call Rahul to collect the series-winning trophy to give him all credit for the 2-1 victory as Rahul was the stand-in skipper when the Men In Blue beat Australia by 5 wickets in the first ODI in Mohali and by 99 runs in second ODI in Indore.

Unfortunately, India were unable to register a historic clean sweep over the Aussies as they faced a 66-run defeat in the third ODI in Rajkot where Rohit Sharma was leading the side.

Meanwhile, Rahul after being at the receiving end of an incredible gesture, showcased the same towards other players as he handed the trophy to local Saurashtra players and offered them the center stage.

Notably, India only had 13 players available for the third ODI and among those Ishan Kishan also became unavailable due to his illness as a result, the BCCI called four local state players – Dharmendra Jadeja, Prerak Mankad, Vishwaraj Jadeja, and Harvik Desai – to support the team for drinks and fielding throughout the match.

Talking about the match, Australia won the toss and elected to bat first. They posted a mammoth total of 352/7 on the board. The top four batters of the Australian line-up showcased sheer class and registered brilliant half-centuries. Mitchell Marsh (96) and David Warner (56) built a good opening partnership and then Steve Smith (74) and Marnus Labuschagne (72) batted very well to help Australia reach a good total.

Chasing the target, Rohit Sharma played a sensational knock and was involved in two 70-plus run partnerships with Washington Sundar and Virat Kohli, who also hit a brilliant half-century.

The middle-order batters KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer got starts, but they failed to capitalize on it and India got bundled out for just 286 in 49.4 overs to miss out on a series whitewash over the Aussies.
