India fast bowler Mohammed Shami will soon begin his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) following his successful surgery. The speedster underwent treatment on his right heel, which bothered him for a while.

Mohammed Shami was batting with a right heel injury at the  ICC World Cup 2023. But his commitment to the team was something to cherish for everyone. The right-arm fast bowler took injections for the pain and made sure that he gave his best for the team in big events.

Mohammed Shami was the leading wicket-taker in the ICC World Cup 2024 with 24 wickets to his name. The fast bowler was the main reason why India reached the final by winning 10 consecutive games. But he didn’t get a fairytale ending as India lost the final against Australia.

After the World Cup 2023, Mohammed Shami hasn’t featured for India in any formats because of the injury. He missed the white-ball series against Australia, Afghanistan, and South Africa. It was expected that he would be available for the Tests against Proteas but he wasn’t deemed fit to play.

Mohammed Shami was undergoing treatment for his heel and there was a chance of him featuring in the ongoing Test series against England. But his injury was much worse than expected and it required surgery. The fast bowler then recently underwent surgery and provided an update to his fans.

The speedster posted his post-operation picture, revealing that his surgery was successful. Taking to his Twitter account, he stated: “Just had a successful heel operation on my Achilles tendon! Recovery is going to take some time, but looking forward to getting back on my feet.”

In the absence of Mohammed Shami, young pacers Mukesh Kumar, Akash Deep, and Prasidh Krishna have got the opportunities. The fast bowler would be eager to make his comeback and take his spot back in the team.

“He is recovering well and will soon head to the National Cricket Academy” – BCCI’s statement on Mohammed Shami

After Mohammed Shami underwent a successful heel operation, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) provided an update about the fast bowler. The governing body mentioned that the pacer will be heading to NCA for his rehabilitation process. The statement read:

Mohd. Shami successfully underwent surgery on 26th February, 2024 for his right heel problem. He is recovering well and will soon head to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru to commence his rehabilitation process.”

Mohammed Shami will be missing IPL 2024 as well. It will be a huge blow for the Gujarat Titans. He was the leading wicket-taker in IPL 2023, picking 28 wickets in 17 matches. The fast bowler will be also in contention for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

Mohammed Shami has been India’s main bowler in the World Cups. The team management would be eager to make him fit as soon as possible. With the T20 World Cup slated to take place in the USA and Caribbean, he would be vital for the team in the event.
