Dinesh Karthik has credited Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for identifying Akash Deep‘s talent and helping him become a better bowler. His comments came after the Bengal pacer’s stunning debut in Test cricket on Friday (February 23).

The right-arm pacer got the nod ahead of Mukesh Kumar to replace Jasprit Bumrah in the playing eleven for the ongoing fourth Test against England in Ranchi and he has justified his selection. After England won the toss and opted to bat first, Akash Deep led India’s charge with the ball and picked up three quick wickets.

While England’s openers have consistently given their team a good start in the ongoing series, they could not do it in the ongoing Test because of India’s debutant pacer. After Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett added 47 runs for the first wicket, Akash Deep dismissed the latter and Ollie Pope in the tenth over to reduce England to 47 for 2. 10 runs later, he castled Crawley with a beauty to put India well on top.

Dinesh Karthik credits RCB for Akash Deep’s rise:

With Akash Deep performing well with the new ball in Ranchi, Dinesh Karthik credited RCB for his impressive rise in the game. The veteran wicketkeeper, who plies his trade for the Bengaluru-based outfit in the IPL, stated that RCB have been working hard on the pacer for the last two to three years.

“Credit to the RCB scouting system, they found Akash Deep two-three years ago. They are working hard on him,” Karthik said while commentating.

Akash Deep earned his maiden IPL contract from the RCB in 2021 when the franchise signed him as an injury replacement for Washington Sundar. At that time, he was plying his trade as a net bowler for the three-time IPL finalists. In 2022, RCB bought the pacer in the auction and he went on to make his debut in the IPL in the same year. He has played 7 games in the IPL so far and has taken 6 wickets.
