England spinner Jack Leach will be undergoing surgery for the knee injury that he faced during the Test series against India. He said that the swelling that he has got on his left knee is not budging.

Jack Leach was one of the unfortunate names from the England team who had to leave the Test series against India midway and travel back home. The spinner injured his knee while fielding during the first day of the Hyderabad Test, which was the first game of the series as well.

Despite being injured, Jack Leach gave his best for the team and chipped with the ball. Although the discomfort was visible, he bowled well for the team and helped them win the first match of the series. He bowled 36 overs in the game with a heavy strapping and also removed Shreyas Iyer.

Jack Leach was the rested for the second Test in Vizag and it was expected that he would get fit by the time the third game begins in Rajkot. However, his injury was much worse than expected as was deemed unfit to play further games and was ruled out of the entire series against India.

Jack Leach revealed that he will be getting an operation on his knee as some amount of swelling is still there. He while calling his injury unfortunate explained the nature of his injury. Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live, he explained:

“I’m going to have an operation to get the rest of the swelling out because it’s not budging. It was quite an unfortunate one. It was the second ball of the first innings in the field so that whole game I was playing with this knee problem.”

I need to get the operation done and then hopefully I can get back to playing cricket – Jack Leach

Jack Leach, who made a return after a prolonged injury during the India series after a back injury in Ashes 2023, said that after getting the operation he wants to get back to playing cricket as soon as possible. He expressed his desire to play for a long time. He added:

I obviously knocked it a few times throughout that game, and it has just created a long period of recovery. I need to get the operation done and then hopefully I can get back to playing cricket. I’d love to have a run of playing cricket and getting into a bit of a rhythm again and hopefully that can happen again once I’ve got this sorted.”

In the absence of Jack Leach, England spinners in Tom Hartley, Shoaib Bashir, and Rehan Ahmed have done a terrific job for the team. The series between India and England is in favour of hosts by 2-1 but the visitors seem favourites to win the ongoing 4th game. They have asserted their authority on the game as in the first innings they posted 353 runs on the board, thanks to Joe Root. After that with the ball, they reduced India to 177/6.
