"Rohit Sharma has pedigree of leadership success" - Ian Chappell credits India captain for team's success

Former Australian cricketer Ian Chappell lavished rich praise on India captain Rohit Sharma for his leadership in the ongoing Test series against England. He said that the opening batter has guided Team India in the right direction. 

Rohit Sharma as an Indian captain has faced a lot of challenges in the ongoing Test series against England. The senior opener has an extremely young team for the series and the way he has guided them is something that has been cherished by many. 

India’s team in Test cricket is going through the transition and also injuries to some players haven’t helped them at all. Under all the tough circumstances, Rohit Sharma has been the shining light and the amount of confidence that he has shown in young guns has brought the best out of them. 

Rohit Sharma as a leader did make some mistakes as a captain in the ongoing series. But what has been impressive is he has found a way to come out of even tough situations in the game. Be it batters or bowlers, the senior opener has handled the team pretty well. 

Rohit Sharma’s impressive leadership has been one of the main reasons why India is currently leading the series 2-1. The batter even led from the front in the Rajkot Test as he slammed a magnificent ton when his team was down and dusted. Even in the ongoing game in Ranchi, he with his leadership has found a way to bail the am out of trouble. 

Ian Chappell believes that Rohit Sharma’s reputation has guided the team in the right direction. He admitted that had the senior opener failed in the tough situation then the Indian team would’ve been flattered. Speaking to ESPNCricinfo, he explained: 

“Rohit Sharma has a pedigree of leadership success, his reputation helped him guide a fluid Indian team in the right direction. Any failure in his leadership could easily have led this Indian team to faltering when the going got tough”.

Recently Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal credited Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid for his success in the ongoing Test series against England. He said that he speaks a lot to the skipper about how he can change his style throughout the innings. Speaking to broadcasters, he explained: 

“I speak a lot with Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma about how I can change my style throughout the innings and try to make sure that I am always playing for the team and what the team needs. I am learning every day in net sessions and from talking to my senior players.” 

Yashasvi Jaiswal has looked a class apart with the bat in the ongoing Test series against England. The batter has mustered over 600 runs whereas other batters have struggled to reach the 300-run mark. Despite being young, he has carried the Indian batting lineup which speaks a lot about his ability.
