The Day 1 of the ongoing Test between India and England has been fascinating so far because of the stellar show between bat and ball. The fourth game of the five-match Test series between the teams is taking place at the Jharkhand Cricket Association complex in Ranchi.

England won the toss and opted to bat first. After a valiant 47-run partnership between Ben Duckett (11) and Zak Crawley (42), the visitors crumbled and lost wickets quickly. Debutant Akash Deep was the wrecker in chief behind the carnage as he picked three wickets in the first session.

Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin also chipped as India reduced England to 112/5. However, after that Joe Root and Ben Foakes frustrated the Indian bowlers with their 100-plus partnership and brought their team back into the game after some early blows in the first session.

They made sure that England didn’t lose any wickets in the second session. Mohammed Siraj removed Ben Foakes for 47 but Joe Root continued oozing his class. The batter has looked extremely solid at the crease and has made India’s bowlers look clueless.

While Joe Root was batting at ease, his batting seemed to have bored spectators in the park. Among all, the ball boy caught the attention of many. The youngster was sitting near the boundary ropes and was seen sleeping. The cameraman focused on him and it invited huge roars.

Former India cricketer Ravi Shastri, who was doing commentary, seized in an opportunity to mock the youngsters. He was heard urging the ball boy to wake up and enjoy the match as it is getting exciting and he should keep himself fresh.

“Oo the big yawn. Wake up, wake up. Have a glass of water, the cricket is getting interesting. Wake up old boy,” Ravi Shastri was heard saying on air.

Joe Root slams century against India in Ranchi

England Premier batter Joe Root has returned to form and he stepped up for the team when it mattered the most. The batter bagged a series of low scores in three games so far in the series. He was criticised a lot for his poor performances with the bat as many experts lashed out at him for playing an attacking brand of cricket.

Coming into the game, Joe Root was under a lot of pressure but he silenced all his critics with style. The batter oozed his class and made sure that he cashed on the start he got and bailed his team out of trouble. With England losing 5 quick wickets, something special was expected of Joe Root.

And the batter did exactly that. The batter slammed a magnificent ton and helped his team get in a decent position in the match. With his half-century, he became the batter with the most 50+ scores in England Test history. He brought up his ton in 219 balls and made sure that his team went past 250 runs on the board, which at one stage seemed difficult.
