Joe Root, a former leader of England, is in the absolute finest of his career after scoring 10 test hundreds since the start of 2021.

The right-handed batsman has saved England on his numerous times, and he is doing the same thing during the current Test match at Edgbaston against India.

In the current Test, Root entered the middle while England was batting at 107/2 and participated in the run-out of Alex Lees, who was dismissed after 56 runs (65). But the former skipper made apologies, and he and Jonny Bairstow, who is currently batting on 72, have put up a 150-run stand for the fourth wicket. On Day 5, England needs 119 runs and has 7 wickets in hand.

It would be a crowning achievement for Root, whose excellent form over the past two years has not been matched by results, to help England win this Test and tie the series at 2-2.

Joe Root has totalled 671 runs in a single India vs England series:

At the end of Day 4, Root was unbeaten on 75 after contributing with a 67-ball 31 in the first innings and had brought England very close to the impossible 378-run total in the fourth innings.

Virat Kohli had held the record for the highest total performance in a single India vs England series until Root shattered it on his way to his 75. In the current series, Root has totalled 671 runs.

Out of the 671 runs, 564 were won in the first four games that were played the previous year, before the series was interrupted in the middle owing to the appearance of Covid-19 cases inside the Indian bio-bubble.

Root’s methodical performance has already resulted in three hundred, and he is only 25 runs away from scoring a fourth. Kohli scored 655 runs in 2016, including two hundred and the same number of half-centuries.
