Former Pakistan player Danish Kaneria resembled Rishabh Pant’s scintillating innings against England in the third ODI to the similar ranks of Yuvraj Singh and Mohammad Kaif in the Natwest Trophy 2022 final.

Pant remained unbeaten on 125 off 113 balls, his innings was laced by 16 fours and two sixes, as India chased 260 with 47 balls to spare. Pant targeted England pacers, Craig Overton and David Willey, smashing the latter for five boundaries in a row to almost seal the game and series for India.

Yuvraj Singh (69) and Mohammad Kaif (87*) stitched a 121-run stand for the sixth wicket as India clawed their way back in a 326-run chase against England in the 2022 NatWest final. It was one of the spectacular chases in the annals of ODI cricket.

“Pant’s innings reminded me of Yuvraj and Kaif in the Natwest Trophy final. Even there, the top-order batters were gone in a collapse, the youngsters helped India cross the line,” Kaneria said on his YouTube channel.

“Pandya and Pant also similarly put up a crucial partnership. They broke the bowling unit. Pandya is in a great rhythm now, he has worked really hard on his fitness,” he added.

“Rishabh Pant played with a lot of maturity, he is going to be a world-class player. There are only a few players who can match him in terms of talent. He can even convert his 100s to 200, that’s how big a player he is. He is extremely confident as well. If you have players like Pandya and Pant, targets like these become easier to chase,” Kaneria said.

Pant became the first Asian wicketkeeper-batter to register a three-figure score in Tests and ODI formats in England.
