South African batting genius AB de Villiers was left impressed and in awe after watching India’s Ravindra Jadeja and Rishabh Pant counterattacking the England bowlers on day 2 of the ongoing fifth Test match in Edgbaston.
The duo came together with India’s score reading 98/5 and added 222 runs, a joint-record sixth-wicket partnership for India, and propelled them towards a daunting first innings total of 416 runs. Rishabh Pant smacked 146 runs in 111 balls with 4 sixes and 19 fours, while Ravindra Jadeja made 104 runs.
While the wicketkeeper-batter took the attack to the opposition, Jadeja was happy to play second fiddle. They smashed the English bowlers all over the park.
That Counterattack Partnership From Rishabh Pant And Ravindra Jadeja Is Right Up There With The Best: AB De Villiers
Jadeja scored his third Test century and first outside India, while Pant smashed his 5th Test hundred and second in England. England bowlers had no idea where to bowl and the partnership was broken when Rishabh Pant got enticed into playing a false shot by former England captain Joe Root.
They smashed the English bowlers all over the park and stitched together a double-century stand to put the hosts on the backfoot.
Lauding the Pant-Jadeja duo on Twitter on Monday, de Villiers wrote on Twitter: “Haven’t been home and missed most of the Cricket action. Finished watching the highlights now. That counterattack partnership from @RishabhPant17 and @imjadeja is right up there with the best I’ve ever seen in Test Cricket!”

Then, the Indian bowlers did their job brilliantly as England was reduced to 84/5 and despite a counterattacking 106 by Jonny Bairstow and his partnerships with Ben Stokes and Sam Billings, England only managed to make 284 runs.
For India, Mohammed Siraj picked four wickets, captain Jasprit Bumrah took three scalps, Mohammad Shami took 2 and Shardul Thakur took one wicket.
