Former India captain Virat Kohli might have given Jonny Bairstow a hand on his shoulder as they walked off from the field due to rain on the second day of the ongoing fifth Test match between India and England at Edgbaston, but the stump mic also caught Kohli sledging Bairstow as well as he struggled with the bat.

England was left 84/5 at the end of the day’s play after Jasprit Bumrah wreaked havoc with the ball, taking out the top three of England batting in Alex Lees, Zak Crawley, and Ollie Pope. Mohammed Siraj got rid of Joe Root and then Mohammad Shami dismissed Jack Leach.

The earlier Indian team had shown great resilience as Rishabh Pant scored a masterful and belligerent 146 and Ravindra Jadeja made his first overseas Test ton as India piled up 416 runs. This also included the world record 35-run over from Stuart Broad, as Jasprit Bumrah hammered 29 runs off his own bat.

England was left with Jonny Bairstow and captain Ben Stokes to save the blushes, but Bairstow found it difficult to negotiate Indian bowlers. And he was showing huge signs of struggle against Mohammed Shami, who was simply sensational on Saturday.

And watching Bairstow struggling to middle the ball against the India pacer, former skipper Virat Kohli ruthlessly sledged him using Tim Southee’s name. The incident happened at the end of the 14th over as the stump mic picked up Kohli’s words at the change of ends.

England had India on the ropes on day one which had a delayed start as rain poured down in Edgbaston. James Anderson did the most damage as he picked his 32nd Test match fifer. For India apart from Pant and Jadeja, Bumrah (31*) and Hanuma Vihari (20) were the next best scorers.
