When Jos Buttler won the toss and decided to field first he would definitely have thought that things would be different in the game. But like in the first game, India got off to a good start. The openers added 49 runs and India scored at more than 10 RPO in the powerplay.

But then England made a strong comeback, Richard Gleeson playing his first match for England at 34 got the wickets of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant in quick succession.

Chris Jordon got into the act as he removed Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya in the same over. But then Dinesh Karthik and Ravindra Jadeja put India’s innings back on track, but as it looked like they were set to attack more, Karthik got run-out against the run of play.

But Jadeja still batted till the end and helped India post 170 on the board.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar was once again superb with the new ball as he got both openers out. Soon Jasprit Bumrah also got the wicket of Liam Livingstone and put England on the back foot. In the end, Moeen Ali did get a few runs, but it wasn’t enough for England to win the game.

Jos Buttler after the game said, “Very disappointing. I don’t think we played well enough to consider batting first as an option.”

On Gleeson’s debut, he said, “Not just the wickets but the guys he got out, overall a fantastic debut.”

He further added, “CJ always bowls the tough overs and is naturally under pressure a lot of the time. Gets the result most of the time, delighted for him. We don’t have much time to reflect on it as the next game is tomorrow.
