The wait for Virat Kohli to get back in shape has grown longer just when there was some hope. Kohli suffered a groyne strain before to the first One Day International between India and England at The Oval on Tuesday, therefore ruling him out of the series opener.
The prevailing view is that ODI cricket is the perfect format for Kohli to regain his run-scoring form since there won’t be any pressure and he can take his time. However, we must currently wait till the second and third ODIs on Thursday and Sunday.

Syed Kirmani Wants Virat Kohli To Play Domestic Cricket
Given that Kohli chose not to play in the ODI series against the West Indies, it will be quite concerning if he struggles to get going against England. Even if India’s captain Rohit Sharma may have supported Kohli, the team’s management is likely aware of the risks involved with starting an out-of-form batter when there are young and effective batsmen ready.
Former India wicketkeeper Syed Kirmani thinks it may not be a terrible idea for Virat Kohli to play some domestic cricket again, score some runs there, and regain some confidence if he can’t break out of his slump soon.

The same was brought up by Venkatesh Prasad, and Kirmani afterwards said there was no reason why selectors couldn’t have a “difficult talk” with Kohli over his status in the squad.
“Obviously, there is so much of competition in this current era. If you are not performing in a few innings, irrespective of however experienced you might be, the selection committee takes a call and says, ‘That’s it.
Go back to domestic cricket, come back to form and then we will see if we can fit you back into the Indian team’. Don’t see why that can’t apply to Virat Kohli,” Kirmani told India Today.
Like Junior, Sometimes Seniors Also Need The Same Support: Amit Mishra
Amit Mishra, a former India spinner who has played with and under Kohli, believes the former captain should be kept around since he is still a vital member of the squad and will play a significant role in the T20 World Cup, which begins in October.

“We can say that he is not in form currently but he has created such a reputation, has performed so much and won so many games that it is important to back him. As a player, he is a match-winner and has always stepped up to the occasion in difficult circumstances.
Like junior, sometimes seniors also need the same support. So keep that faith and make sure he does not lose that confidence,” Mishra said.
