Ben Stokes followed the events from the India vs. England Test series despite being absent from the sport last summer due to Virat Kohli’s captaincy. With the fifth Test of the series being rescheduled, Stokes will now captain England.

The Test series between England and India, which was cut short last year owing to Covid-19 in the Indian camp, is set to resume.

Ben Stokes, who has replaced Joe Root as England captain, initially did not even watch cricket last summer when India visited England. But it was Virat Kohli’s leadership of the Indian team that drew his attention.

Virat Kohli, who led the Indian team in four Tests last year, has been replaced as captain by Rohit Sharma. However, as Rohit is out with Covid-19, Jasprit Bumrah will lead the Indian troops in the Birmingham Test.

Since Kohli is no currently India’s captain in any of the three formats, even the members on the opposing sides value his legacy in Test matches. The same is supported by Ben Stokes’ remarks on Kohli’s leadership.
“To be completely honest, I barely watched any cricket last summer and skipped most of it (India-England matches). The manner Virat (Kohli) led India in Test matches, however, was interesting to see. So yeah, looking forward to the match once more,” said Stokes.

The Indian team is quite different from the Kiwis: Ben Stokes

Stokes points out the fact that England destroyed New Zealand, the “greatest team in the world,” 3-0. Stokes does not believe there should be any adjustments made even though the Indian team is very different from the Kiwis.

We just defeated New Zealand, the best team in the world, 3-0. At the pre-game press conference at Edgbaston, Stokes remarked, “India is a completely different opposition, different in terms of a team. But we are concentrating on ourselves.”

“We are aware of our strengths, but we also consider our opponents when playing. We do not change just because the opposition does.”

The fifth Test, the one between England and India that has been rescheduled, will start on July 1 at Edgbaston in Birmingham. Due to the COVID-19 fear, the final match of the two teams’ Test series from the previous year was postponed. The Indian team presently has a 2-1 advantage in the series.
