On Day 1 of the rescheduled fifth and final Test of the series against England, India’s Rishabh Pant displayed brilliant batting skills. The wicketkeeper-batter broke MS Dhoni’s record for the quickest century by an Indian wicketkeeper-batter by reaching his sixth century in the game’s longest format.
Pant hit the three-figure milestone in four less balls than Dhoni did in 2005, when he accomplished the record with a 93-ball century.

Rishabh Pant Breaks Sachin Tendulkar’s Record
Pant accomplished another significant milestone on the way to his stunning tonne at Edgbaston. The left-hander hit 100 sixes in international cricket, becoming the youngest Indian to do so. On Friday, he hit his 100th six while facing spinner Jack Leach.

The record for the youngest Indian to accomplish the feat belongs to India’s greatest player, Sachin Tendulkar. Pant reached the milestone at the age of 24 years, 271 days, while Tendulkar did so at the age of 25. Suresh Raina, a former player for Chennai Super Kings and India, is in third place after hitting the three-figure milestone in 25 years and 7 days.
Rishabh Pant And Ravindra Jadeja Stabalise Indian Innings
India was given the opportunity to bat after Ben Stokes won the toss, and Jasprit Bumrah became the team’s new captain. After testing positive for Covid-19 last week, first-team captain Rohit Sharma was unable to recuperate in time for the game to begin and was thus disqualified from the rescheduled Test.

Cheteshwar Pujara and Shubman Gill began the first innings of the Test in Rohit’s absence, but the opening duo struggled to create an impact.
Pujara only managed to score 13 before both of them were eliminated by seasoned spinner James Anderson, while Gill was removed on 17. Before Rishabh Pant (146) and Ravindra Jadeja (83*) stabilised the Indian innings, Hanuma Vihari (20), Virat Kohli (11) and Shreyas Iyer (15) were both cheaply despatched.
On Day 1, India posted a score of 338/7 at stumps.
