Since November 2019, Virat Kohli has not recorded a century in international cricket. He is now going through a slump. In the first innings of the ongoing, delayed fifth Test against England, Kohli was out for 11 by Matthew Potts.

However, the right-handed batsman has received praise for motivating and effectively leading the India Test team. Michael Atherton, a former England captain, discussed Saturday what Kohli’s great legacy would be and expressed his wish for the Indian batter to reclaim his “greatest form.”

I Hope Virat Kohli Can Rediscover His Batting Form: Michael Atherton

“I know Rahul Dravid a bit better than Virat Kohli. It was nice to chat with them both, Rahul I played against and I have a very high regard for him.

I wish him well as the coach of the Indian team and I hope Virat, after a couple of difficult years with the bat, can rediscover his best form,” said Atherton while talking to David Gower, Ajay Jadeja and Harsha Bhogle on Sony Sports Network before the start of play on Day 2.

“I am a big admirer of his cricket, his batting and the way he is driven the Indian Test team forward as the captain and the way he has promoted Test cricket as well, I think that will be his great legacy,” he added.

In 68 Tests as Team India’s captain, Kohli earned 40 victories and 17 defeats. In Australia in 2018–19, Kohli led his team to a Test series victory.

The last time Kohli scored a century was in a day-night Test against Bangladesh at the Eden Gardens in November of 2019.

Since then, he has failed to reach the three-figure threshold. Before being dismissed by Potts in the first innings of the current Test match against England, Kohli faced 19 balls and hit two fours in his 11-run performance.
