Hanuma Vihari, Shardul Thakur, and Shubman Gill, according to former Indian bowler Karsan Ghavri, have had enough opportunities but haven’t been able to put together strong enough performances to demand a sure berth in India’s Test XI.

Ghavri made his remarks following India’s defeat to England in the fifth Test, which was played at Edgbaston in Birmingham on a new date. In that game, Vihari, Thakur, and Gill were all starters for the visitors, and all three of them performed poorly in both innings of the Test match.

Shubman Gill Lacks Consistency: Karsan Ghavri

“I think it’s time we looked beyond Hanuma Vihari and Shardul Thakur. Shubman Gill is a good future prospect, but where is his consistency?” Ghavri said.

The former bowler suggested Sarfaraz Khan and Surykumar Yadav as Vihari and Gill’s potential successors. A limited-overs expert named Suryakumar has been pounding on the doors of red-ball cricket for some time. Even in the Test series from the previous year, he was selected as a backup.

In contrast, Sarfaraz was in the greatest form of his life during the Ranji Trophy. “Sarfaraz Khan and Suryakumar Yadav need to be drafted into the Test team as soon as possible.

They are the future stars of Indian cricket. Our next Test series is against Bangladesh in November. Don’t think they are pushovers. We have to play against them with our best resources,” Ghavri said.

Ghavri made his remarks last week after India lost the fifth and final Test of the series at Edgbaston, which had been postponed, by seven wickets. Due to the defeat, the five-match series was tied 2-2. During the Test’s two innings, Shubman Gill and Hanuma Vihari both struggled, and Shardul Thakur was only able to secure one wicket.

India won’t play a Test match until December since the calendar is still full of white-ball tournaments ahead of the T20 World Cup in October–November.
