Rohit Sharma Will Not Play The 5th Rescheduled Test vs England, Jasprit Bumrah To Captain Team India- Reports

Dark clouds over Rohit Sharma’s participation in the 5th rescheduled Test between India and England now seem to be clearing up. As per some media reports, BCCI sources have made it clear that Rohit Sharma won’t be able to recover from COVID-19 in time for the 5th Test and hence, he will not be a part of the Indian playing XI.

It is notable that Rohit was supposed to lead team India in the rescheduled Test but he tested positive for COVID-19 just days before the Test match was about to begin. Now, the reports have also confirmed that Jasprit Bumrah will be taking over as the Indian captain for the final Test vs England.

BCCI Finalize Their Decision Regarding Rohit Sharma’s Participation In The Birmingham Test

Rohit was leading the Indian team in the warmup match against Leicestershire. He batted for the team in the first innings of the game. However, when India’s second innings came up, Rohit was nowhere to be seen on the playing field or in the dugout throughout the day. The next day, it was revealed that Rohit has tested positive for COVID-19.

As per reports in Dainik Jagran, BCCI sources have confirmed that Rohit Sharma will not be available for selection in the final Test. Also, the BCCI has finalized that Jasprit Bumrah, the Indian vice-captain in Tests, will be leading the Indian team in absence of Rohit Sharma in the rescheduled Test.

The Birmingham Test is all set to take place from July 01. The India National Cricket Team were 2-1 up in the five-match series when the series came to a halt last year s the Indian team was not able to field their playing XI in the final Test due to COVID-19 cases in the camp. The final Test will also be the decider of the series.

Mayank Agarwal has been called up by the Indian team management as a backup of Rohit Sharma and now it seems all but evident that Mayank will open the innings alongside Shubman Gill in the rescheduled Test.
