Virat Kohli is not playing in the first ODI due to a niggle Rohit Sharma confirmed at the toss. It is no secret that Kohli has been going through the toughest phase of his career so far and with 4 straight low scores on the tour so far it was hoped that the batter will return to form in what is believed to be his best format.

But Kohli sustained an injury in the last T20I and that meant he was running against time to be available for the first game, not many wanted to believe that Kohli will sit out of the game as there was no official word from the Indian camp but during the toss, Rohit Sharma confirmed Virat is indeed sitting out.

Kohli’s difficulties in recent times have been thoroughly examined, and his thinking has been scrutinised to the point where previous players and coaches have urged him to take a break, which he has done in spades; credit where credit is due to the BCCI in this regard.

Virat Kohli’s Form In ODI Cricket Is Not That Bad

The forthcoming ODI series was supposed to be Kohli’s best opportunity to dispel claims that he is in decline and restore the sense of certainty that pervaded his batting and hundreds from 2015 to 2019 when he was at the top of his game. He has six half-centuries in his past 11 ODI innings, for the record. But those 50s have come at a below-par strike rate for a quality batter like Kohli and in the rest of his innings, he has not done well.
