Former England captain Joe Root was the centerpiece of the home side’s amazing 7-wicket win over India in the fifth rescheduled Test match which was played at Edgbaston. England chased down 378 runs thanks to centuries from Root and Jonny Bairstow and leveled the series 2-2.
Joe Root has been in purple form this year which he has carried over from 2021 when he scored a bagful of runs both in England and outside England as well. He started off with 115*, 176, and 86* against New Zealand in the three-Test series recently and carried over that into this match as well, as he scored 31 in the first innings and now hit another century.
He has received huge support from Jonny Bairstow as well, who is on verge of his second hundred of the match, following his innings saving 106 in the first innings.
In the end, Joe Root ended up making 142* with 19 fours and 1 six to his name as England won the Test match by 7 wickets.

During his knock, Root went past Virat Kohli’s record of most runs in one England-India Test series. Kohli had scored 655 runs in 2016 and Root broke that record with 564 came in the first four matches which were played last year before the series got suspended midway due to Covid-19 cases emerging inside the Indian bio-bubble.
Root finished the series with 737 runs in 5 Test matches at an average of 108 with 4 centuries and 1 fifty to his name.
To show how much he was in form, Joe Root even showcased his wide repertoire of shots as England cantered to the win in the fifth Test match. One of those shots was a reverse scoop to India’s Shardul Thakur.
It was the 4th ball of the 72nd over of the innings, when Root reversed his stance to a full ball outside off stump from Shardul Thakur and opened the face of the bat, and scooped the rising ball over the third man for a six.
