Aakash Chopra has identified Suryakumar Yadav’s batting performance as one of India’s key lessons from the T20I series against New Zealand.
The last game in Napier on Tuesday, November 22, concluded in a tie according to the DLS method, giving the Men in Blue a 1-0 series win. Despite being dismissed for a 10-ball 13 in the third T20I, Yadav concluded the series as the highest run-getter with 124 runs.
In a video he posted on his YouTube channel assessing the series, Chopra identified Suryakumar Yadav as one of the greatest benefits for India, explaining:
“God only knows what planet the player with the surname Suryakumar Yadav hails from. His batting style has changed. It’s just amazing. Is it possibly feasible when you witness such batting? is the first thought that enters your head.”
In the second Twenty20 International at Mount Maunganui, Yadav hit an unbeaten 111 off just 51 balls. During that inning, India’s Mr. 360 smashed 11 fours and seven sixes, effectively winning the game for his team.
“He is India’s best-ever T20 batter”: Aakash Chopra
Aakash Chopra stated that Yadav’s outstanding batting has everyone wondering if he is India’s best-ever T20 batsman, saying:
“Then he plays the scoop on the leg side, uses his feet, and hits over cover, I mean he’s been incredible. With the manner he’s batting, the major question is whether he’s India’s best T20 batsman ever.”
Although Aakash Chopra believes it would be a little early to answer that query, he also noted that the Mumbai Indians player is laying out the guidelines for all other hitters. He stated:
“You shouldn’t ask that question right now, but it will come at some point because of the way he is batting, he is inventing the wheel, and he is showing us all that this is how you can play and you will succeed if you keep playing like that.”
Chopra ended by expressing his hope that Yadav won’t experience a protracted dry spell after experiencing a lean period. The 32-year-old plays a high-risk sport that heavily relies on eye-hand synchronization, he reasoned.
