Glenn Phillips, a New Zealand batsman, praised Suryakumar Yadav as an “unbelievable” hitter and praised his ability to have an extra second to read deliveries flawlessly and even score maximum “bailout shots.”

Suryakumar’s incredible 51-ball, 111-run performance in the second T20I earned him the award of Player of the Series on Tuesday.

The third T20I concluded in a draw after being delayed by rain, and Phillips noted in the press conference that “the thing that strikes me most is actually how he manages to foresee so accurately, where the ball is going.”

“It’s not necessarily about the premeditation, per se, he has a rough idea of where the bowler is going to ball. But he still has the ability to guess which ball it is going to be and then have bailout options, If it’s not there and unlike other people his bailout options still seem to go for four or six” Glenn Phillips Added.

During his remarkable innings, Suryakumar smashed seven sixes and 11 fours. He also hit some spectacular hits, including a few from behind the third man.

“…that shot off the other day was hard length on off stump and he manages to head it over the third man with a straight bat. So that definitely strikes me as something that is the next level,” Glenn Phillips said.

“Obviously, playing with premeditation obviously has its downfalls as well. But while you’re flying high, absolutely and it’s unbelievable to watch.”

“The Indians have so much depth”: Glenn Phillips

On Tuesday, Arshdeep Singh and Mohammed Siraj each took four wickets to dismiss New Zealand for 160 in 19.4 overs, after the hosts were at 130 for 2 in the 16th over.

“The Indians have such depth, the IPL really demonstrates that.. for players like Arshdeep and Siraj to come in and know that they can already execute at this level,” Phillips said in reference to India’s bowling attack.

“And Arshdeep’s control, swinging the ball both ways with Bhuvneshwar Kuma up front, that is a wonderful skill to have, especially being able to hit the entire death on command,” Glenn Phillips remarked.

India is scheduled to face New Zealand in a three-match ODI series, with Samson included in Shikhar Dhawan’s squad.
