Former Pakistani leg-spinner Danish Kaneria believes that Suryakumar Yadav should be replaced by in-form all-rounder Deepak Hooda in the 2nd T20I match against the West Indies that will be contested at St. Kitts.

Kaneria believes that Yadav, 31, needs time to relax following a dismal ODI series in which he scored just 30 runs in 3 matches, despite scoring a stunning century in the third T20I against England at Trent Bridge.

With the bat, Deepak Hooda did not have the best ODI series. He has, however, excelled in the few T20I opportunities that he has received, with a remarkable average of 68.33 in six games with 100 total runs.

As Danish Kaneria explained in a video posted on his YouTube channel, replacing Yadav with Hooda was justified because:

“Due to his ODI form, Shreyas Iyer received his opportunity. He has not been reliable though. Since Suryakumar Yadav’s performance in the West Indies has been subpar, I believe Deepak Hooda should take his spot. In my opinion, Deepak Hooda is in excellent shape and deserves regular opportunities.”

Rohit Sharma had a crucial role to play: Danish Kaneria

Danish Kaneria thinks that captain Rohit Sharma’s field placement and bowling changes during the first T20I were key. The 41-year-old demonstrated Rohit’s mastery of strategy by using the example of a minor alteration in field location that proved to be successful.

“The setting of Hetmyer’s wicket was another instance of Rohit Sharma’s outstanding captaincy. The very next ball from Ashwin was toe-ended by Hetmyer into the hands of that fielder Suryakumar Yadav after he instructed the straighter mid-on to go a little wider.”

India will be aiming to increase their lead to 2-0 with a victory at Warner Park after taking the opening T20I at Trinidad. After a poor showing in the first game, the Windies will be aiming to bounce back.
