Last month at Port-of-Spain, Avesh Khan made his ODI debut and gave up 54 runs in six overs. At the two T20I games played in St. Kitts, he kept leaking runs. He found it difficult to adjust to the high wind and small boundaries there, giving up 78 runs in 5.2 overs.

However, in the 4th T20I, Avesh Khan turned the tide in the other direction by taking two wickets in the powerplay for only nine runs in just two overs, from which West Indies never really recovered, despite short threats from Nicholas Pooran and Rovman Powell and fell short of the target by 59 runs.

Just Focussed On My Strengths Today, Bowling The Hard Lengths: Avesh Khan

Avesh Khan stated that he is in excellent spirits following their stunning victory. Giving the coach and the captain praise for his efforts, he remarked:

I feel really good because I didn’t do well in the last two games. I just focussed on my strengths today, bowling the hard lengths. My coaches and my captain told me that they were backing me. They told me to bounce back and backed me a lot.”

Speaking about his strong performance in the fourth game, he added, “I am focussing on the next match that is left now. The ball was stopping a bit in the wicket and so I was just mixing my slower deliveries with the hard lengths, which gave me the results.

This ground feels like India only, it feels like home. Happy that the crowd came to see us.”

Rohit Sharma Pleased By Avesh Khan’s Comeback Performance

Avesh’s comeback excited Rohit as well, who expressed his belief in the fast bowler’s prowess.

“We do understand his talent and anyone can have one or two bad days. We do understand his quality and we need to keep that in mind.

When we talk about certain things, you actually want to go out there and do it as well, which is to give players enough game time in the middle and he is fantastic. He used the conditions really well; he used his variations and height really well. So, that was very pleasing to see.”

Arshdeep Singh has been an intriguing addition to India’s assault, and a fit-again Deepak Chahar will return to play in the ODIs in Zimbabwe. However, it is unclear whether Harshal will be available for the Asia Cup. As rivalry for berths in the T20 World Cup intensifies, Sunday may present Avesh with another opportunity to remain in India’s white-ball plans.
