Reetinder Singh Sodhi praised Shreyas Iyer for living up to his potential in the ODI series against the West Indies.
Shreyas scored 44 runs off 34 deliveries in the third and final One-Day International (ODI) against the Windies on Wednesday, July 27 at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain, Trinidad.
Team India scored 225/3 in 36 overs thanks to his knock, half-centuries from Shubman Gill and Shikhar Dhawan, and the DLS system, which allowed them to win by 119 runs.
In the three ODIs against the Windies, Shreyas scored 161 runs at a fantastic average of 53.67 and a similarly outstanding strike rate of 99.38. He hit half-centuries in the opening two games before failing to reach a third straight fifty on Wednesday by only six runs.
‘Iyer has also seized this series with both hands’: Reetinder Singh Sodhi
On India News Sports, Reetinder Singh Sodhi was questioned about Shreyas’ impressive comeback from a disappointing tour of England. He replied:
“His blade needed to produce runs because many people were praising his talent but the runs were not arriving. However, Shreyas Iyer has also seized this series with both hands, just like Shubman Gill did.”
“Well done, Shreyas Iyer. Given the technique he possesses, I believe he will continue to play a significant amount of cricket for India in the future” Reetinder Singh Sodhi said.
In each of Shreyas’ three innings against England, the short ball proved to be his downfall. To continue to succeed at the international level, he was targeted similarly during the IPL 2022 and the ensuing T20I series against South Africa. He will need to find a way to combat this.
