In the first ODI between India and West Indies on Friday, Shamarh Brooks was removed by Shreyas Iyer after taking an outstanding catch four runs short of a half-century.

During the first ODI of the series against the West Indies, the Shikhar Dhawan-captained Indian squad put up a strong batting performance, especially in the top order.

In fifty overs, the team scored a total of 307/8, with skipper Dhawan leading the way (97). Youngster Shubman Gill, who batted with him in the opening position, made a substantial contribution as well with a 64-run effort, and Shreyas Iyer banged his tenth half-century (54).

Windies’ best batsman Shai Hope was out early in the innings due to a Mohammed Siraj back-of-the-length ball, which put them in trouble early in the run chase. When Hope reached 7, the Indian bowler struck in the fifth over of the game. The Windies’ innings were then rebuilt by Kyle Mayers and Shamarh Brooks, who put on a 117-run second-wicket stand.

Shreyas Iyer broke into a unique dancing celebration:

As Mayers reached the fifty-run mark earlier in the innings, Brooks appeared to be on track to reach the milestone in the match’s 24th over. Shardul Thakur, though, ended the tenacious stand by getting Brooks to pull on a slower back-of-the-length delivery. The Windies batter was caught by Shreyas Iyer at deep square leg because he was unable to find the distance and failed to connect correctly.

Iyer glanced towards the stands after making the catch, appearing to smile at someone as he erupted into an unusual dance celebration.

India presently leads the 3-match series 1-0 and will play West Indies in the second one-day international of the series on July 24 in Port of Spain in Trinidad. After the ODI series is over, the Men in Blue will play 5 T20Is against the Caribbeans.
