India National Cricket Team right-arm medium-pacer Deepak Chahar made an exceptional comeback to international cricket after a 6-month-long injury layoff in the first ODI match against Zimbabwe National Cricket Team.

The first ODI match of the three-match ODI series between the KL Rahul-led India National Cricket Team and Regis Chakabva-led Zimbabwe National Cricket Team is being played at the Harare Sports Club on Thursday, August 18.

India National Cricket Team won the toss, opted to bowl first in the match and the decision favoured the Men In Blue. Deepak Chahar, who plays for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League, dismantled the top-order batting unit of Zimbabwe and looked in complete control.

He provided the first breakthrough to Team India by dismissing Innocent Kaia for 4 on the 4th ball of the 7th over. The pacer from Agra bowled a short ball just outside off and the Zimbabwe batter played the pull shot, but only managed to get a thick top-edge and Sanju Samson took the catch.

Chahar bagged the second wicket of the match on the first ball of the 9th over by dismissing Tadiwanashe Marumani with an outswinger. The batter went for the drive without proper footwork and the ball took the bottom edge of the bat to fly towards Sanju Samson who grabbed a good catch.

Deepak Chahar picked up his third wicket of the day by dismissing Wessely Madhevere in front on the first ball of the 11th over. Overall, in his 7-over spell, he gave away just 27 runs and picked up 3 wickets.

Ahead of the game, Chahar had a chat with Rohan Gavaskar where he talked about the competition in Indian cricket. He said:

“It was a long vacation for me. Now fully fit and back. Tough competition in the Indian team and it has been high since I started playing. If I get an opportunity, I can do the job with the new ball and bat in the lower order. It is about performing, and I don’t think about opportunities.

“It should help the seam bowlers due to the cool breeze. The stats also suggest that it helps fast bowlers early in the morning. I have been working on my batting for many years, but I get very less opportunities. Last year I batted in just four matches, and I did well, so hoping to do well if I get a chance,” Chahar said.
