IND vs ZIM: Washington Sundar Doubtful For Zimbabwe Series After Sustaining An Injury

Young India National Cricket Team spin-bowling all-rounder Washington Sundar, who recently sustained a shoulder injury, is doubtful for the ODI tour of Zimbabwe, as per a report in Cricbuzz.

The India tour of Zimbabwe 2022 will consist of a three-match ODI series that will be played on August 18, 20 and 22 in Harare. Shikhar Dhawan was set to lead India in the series, however, KL Rahul, who was a last-minute addition to the squad, has been named as the new captain of the side. Notably, Rahul has been added to the team on his request to ensure he has significant match-time ahead of the Asia Cup 2022.

NCA head VVS Laxman will be the head coach of the side for the Zimbabwe tour and he will be assisted by his National Cricket Academy (NCA) staff. Team India will be leaving for Zimbabwe on Saturday, August 14 morning and Sundar is not expected to be with the squad.

Question Mark Over Washington Sundar’s Fitness

The 22-year-old, who suffered a shoulder injury during a Royal London One-Day match in Manchester, was set to fly to Harare from the UK.

However, there is a question mark over Washington Sundar’s fitness and availability after his left shoulder injury, which he sustained while diving on the field during a Royal London One-Day match between Lancashire and Worcestershire at Old Trafford on Wednesday, August 10.

Meanwhile, a source has told Cricbuzz that the young spin-bowling all-rounder Washington Sundar is doubtful for the series against Zimbabwe National Cricket Team.

“We’re awaiting an update. Will let you know as soon as I get it, hopefully later today,” a spokesman for the county told Cricbuzz.

Talking about Zimbabwe, they recently defeated Bangladesh National Cricket Team in the ODI and T20I series at home.

“As of late, Zimbabwe has been playing a decent standard of cricket. Playing against a highly ranked team like India, Zimbabwe intends to raise its standards much higher. We all look forward to a short but competitive series,” a Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) official said.
