The India vs South Africa (IND vs SA) rivalry in cricket officially began in the 1992-93 season when the Indian team toured the African nation for a four-match series.

Three years later in the 1999-2000 season, South Africa won their first Test series in India by sweeping the two-match Test series. India won a Test in South Africa for the first time in 2006. Since then, they have won a handful of Tests in the African country but are yet to clinch a series. The Test series between India and South Africa is now played for the Freedom Trophy (also known as the Gandhi-Mandela Trophy).
