A funny incident involving the on-field umpire Chris Gaffaney and West Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard took place in the 56th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, which is being played between Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians (MI) and Shreyas Iyer-led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai on Monday, May 9.
After the strategic timeout, the right-arm medium pacer Kieron Pollard was brought to the attack by the Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Rohit Sharma in the 10th over of the match.

Pollard conceded a four on the first ball of the over and gave away three singles on the next three deliveries. Meanwhile, when he was going to bowl the 5th delivery of the over to the left-handed batsman Nitish Rana the ball slipped out of his hand in the bowling stride and it hit the umpire, Chris Gaffaney, as Mumbai Indians all-rounder Kieron Pollard reached the bowling crease.

On the next two deliveries, Pollard gave away two more runs and ended up conceding 9 runs in the over.

Earlier, Mumbai Indians won the toss and opted to field first and they made one forced change to the playing XI as Ramandeep Singh replaced Suryakumar Yadav, who has been injured and ruled out of the entire tournament.
On the other hand, Kolkata Knight Riders once again made plenty of changes to the playing XI as Varun Chakravarthy, Venkatesh Iyer, Pat Cummins, Sheldon Jackson and Ajinkya Rahane replaced Shivam Mavi, Anukul Roy, Aaron Finch, Baba Indrajith and Harshit Rana in the playing XI.
Venkatesh Iyer and Ajinkya Rahane opened the innings for the Knight Riders and all-rounder Daniel Sams opened the attack for Mumbai Indians and he gave away just 4 runs in the first over.

In the 6th over Kumar Kartikeya got the first breakthrough for Mumbai Indians by dismissing opening batsman Venkatesh Iyer, who scored 43 runs off 24 balls, including 3 fours and 4 sixes, and at the end of the powerplay, KKR were at 64/1.
