The Sunrisers Hyderabad have sacked Tom Moody and replaced him with West Indies star Brian Lara as head coach.

Lara was also with the SRH camp in this year’s 2022 Indian Premier League, serving as the franchise’s strategic advisor and batting consultant.

SRH had issues with captain Kane Williamson’s erratic play throughout a full season, and despite their young pacer Umran Malik having a breakout season, it was not enough for the side to qualify for the playoffs.

Hyderabad’s two Indian players, T Natarajan and Washington Sundar were both injured, which ultimately proved crucial to their campaign’s success.

Legendary South African paceman Dale Steyn serves as the bowling coach for SRH, and Muttiah Muralitharan of Sri Lanka serves as the franchise’s spin-bowling and strategic coach. The last two years have been the worst in the franchise’s history; in the previous season, they finished last in the standings, winning just three of their 14 games. Brian Lara will face a challenging assignment in his new position as head coach.

This will be Brian Lara’s first stint as a T20 head coach:

Lara was also with SunRisers Hyderabad last season as a strategic advisor and batting coach.

“The cricketing legend Brian Lara will be our head coach for the upcoming #IPL seasons,” the official handle of SunRisers Hyderabad tweeted on Saturday.

Lara will serve as a T20 team’s head coach for the first time at this time. Tom Moody and SRH mutually agreed to split ways, according to ESPNCricinfo. Moody was then named the director of cricket of International League T20 team Desert Vipers.

Moody had taken over as head coach earlier this year, succeeding Trevor Bayliss after a disastrous 2021 campaign.

In this year’s edition of the IPL, Sunrisers finished eighth with six wins and eight defeats.
